What we'll avoid building

• wherever possible:

  • on Linux, we'll use packages from SuSE (or ...)
  • on Solaris, we'll use (rpm-) packages from TWW
    • “The Written Word” open source distribution

• exceptions: compilers, perl, ...

• versions may differ across platforms

  • unless where that's a real problem

• all packages will be signed
