The development and first results of
the BST equipped with r strips are
published in NIM.
The role of the phi
detectors in the BST and the physics aim of the FST
are described in proposals to the PRC.
One aim of the BST is to measure the momentum of backward tracks.
E / p comparison of momentum measured in the BST with SPACAL energy:
- sign and momentum are measured up to the highest energies
- the photoproduction background can be suppressed at low energies
Another aim is to expand the measurement of heavy flavours into
the backward direction.
This is demonstrated by the decay of a J/Psi meson in the BST:
The acceptance in x and Q2 for the detection of charmed particles
is considerably enlarged by the new BST and FST:
