5. Mai 2004: Dear friends, on the recommendation of Waltraud Niepraschk you have to take the following steps for solving the problems if they happen on a screen in the control room of PITZ: 1. a screen is frozen ====================== you can restart the Xserver on this machine. Change to root with su (you need a password) Look for the X server process: [bubo] / # pp /usr/openwin/bin/X UID PID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD doocsadm 10133 10132 1 08:17:13 console 1:50 /usr/openwin/bin/X :0 -dev /dev/fb0 -dev /dev/fb1 top -nobanner kill the process with kill ---- AND THEN: on bubo: now you get a shell logout and you should get automatically a new X11 environment ---- OR: on aquila, corvus and other Suns with graphical console: send a 'HUP' signal to the primary xdm process. with kill -HUP `cat /usr/sue/lib/xdm/xdm-pid` ----------------------------------------------- 2. someone has locked the screen with xlock ========================================== Change to root with su (you need a password) Look for the process xlock pp xlock kill the process with kill Please don't hesitate to send me an email, or phone me, if there are any errors, remarks or requests.
