Conclusion
Conclusion
- The Windows NT (beta) installation at CERN seems to provide the necessary flexibility that was missing on NICE95
- Several experiments are carefully testing and evaluating NICENT (ex: LHCB, ATLAS, CHORUS, … )
- The success of the PC approach is strictly linked to the ability to remain hooked on the comodity market
- Avoid unnecessary diversity and home grown solutions
- Develop only when absolutely necessary, and limit coding to small “glue” programs that circumvents incompatibilities
- Always consider the home-developed solution as temporary and replace it with the commercial one whenever possible
