Abstract

High energy pp or pN Collisions offer a unique possibility for
producing b quark pairs with high rates, which are required for
precision tests of the standard model, like the
measurement of CP violation in the B system. With HERA-B and LHC-B,
experiments are in preparation which will use single arm spectrometers
to selectively trigger and reconstruct B decays. The high interaction
rates and the huge track densities in the tracking devices represent a
particular challenge for pattern recognition algorithms, which at
HERA-B will be confronted with particles from 4-5 superimposed
interactions, leading to cell occupancies up to 20% in the
spectrometer.

Several methods, global and local, have been developed and
investigated for their ability to cope with HERA-B event
topologies. This paper discusses the status of algorithm development
and their performance on fully simulated Monte Carlo events.
